Some of the best and tightest Dead out there. Download this baby before it disapears. Reviewer: oldhead - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - February 12, Subject: What a weekend!!!!

I was fortunate enough to be at every show during this run at the Capitol. I remember that there was a bomb threat called in and the fire marshal got on stage and told us that we all had to leave so that they could search the building.

After the search they had no choice but to let everyone in. The theater was packed to the rafters. I remember Garcia and Weir saying we know that you're in here referring to the person that called in the scare and they thanked the person.

The exit doors on the fire escape were open and we were dancing out in the alley of the theater and on the fire escape. These shows were simply the greatest experience a person could hope for.

It was a four day party. At the time I couldn't imagine it ever ending. The music was insane and the boys were just having a ball.

I had this show on a Maxell tape for years and ultimately lost it. I was so happy to find it here on the Archives site. I have loved the Dead since I first saw them on hence the user name although I was hooked on Anthem, Aoxomoxoa and Live Dead before I ever saw them.

Nothing in my life has ever touched the experiences I had at Dead shows except for the births of my daugters.

These shows on the Archives web site whether Audience tapes or sound boards are like mana from heaven and should be cherished.

Nothing will ever come around again that can compare to the total package that a Dead show could offer. For sure there were nights that didn't hit the heights but all in all there was no place I would rather have been than at a Grateful Dead concert.

I will always remember the joy and exceptional vibe that came with a show. I don't miss them because they are right here on the Archives site.

God bless the people that make this happen. As for a rating of this show, for pure entertainment I give it a 10 but since 5 is all there is so be it.

Reviewer: skullsnroses - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - October 28, Subject: This will be Released This is as good as DP 8.

The crowd is probably a lot of the same people. Everybody is having more and more fun as things go on.

Please keep this show to yourself This is a pile of gold I want to take a bath in it. By the end of morning dew I was ameoba headed Grant me three more wishes master I'm yours.

Be careful what you wish for you might just get it, and then get it again and again. I think there at least songs which will be the best version you can ever recall hearing unless you keep a journal which i don't.

I would pay the ticket price right now just for the Baby Blue. Please take heed and stop searching Reviewer: Norman Clegg - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - September 9, Subject On a whole, I prefer the show on the 6th to this one, but this night was indeed magical.

This is my favorite "Dark Star" of all: just the right length and full of outerspace weirdness.

This reading of "The Main Ten" is absolutely spine-tingling; it sounds like the band is channeling some other world.

Very nice AUD recording, capturing an astounding evening of music!! Wow great show great venue great sound for an AUD.

Thanks Archive! Reviewer: lanzarishi - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - March 9, Subject: converted holy shit, when i started downloading, i only wanted electric experimental space music from downward.

I cannot believe where I've come. Electric and Acoustic Dead. Too slow, too easy, too I might even love this stuff more now than the electric dead from ' I even went as far as downloading shows from I now make this pronouncement - The Grateful Dead are the present day Avatars of our time.

All they bring is Joy and Light to all who are receptive enough. Sorry to rant but I had to. Please forgive me.

Reviewer: Musical Mountain Man - favorite favorite favorite favorite - November 20, Subject: Great show Great energy and great sound.

I love the sound of the crowd in these vintage shows and this is one of the best. Amazing quality for with the NRPS added bonus.

My favorite: as Pigpen walks on stage to sing Operator with the crowd shouting out requests, one person in the audience shouts "Play whatever you want!

Definitely one of my Top Reviewer: Brontis - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - September 21, Subject: Nov.

The Nov. Absolutely magical. Mellowed with age. Perhaps it was the brush with real-life tragedy, as Phil reports in his book, that occurred this year.

These shows are special. If only there were soundboards available Also noteworthy from this night : Baby Blue and Good Lovin.

Reviewer: Active8Now - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - January 11, Subject: Really plugged in All you need to know about the sound quality is it doesn't spoil the music.

This is a special concert. Garcia's guitar is plugged in somewhere up God's end of the universe and in the best parts you can just feel the well-being coming through.

Sit back and enjoy. Reviewer: oldbozostillonthebus - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - December 8, Subject: Thanks Ken and Judy The other day my 25 year old daughter asked me what was the first show you and Mom went to Dad?

After I told her, she sent me the link to the site. Listening to the show brought back some terrific memories.

To me the sound is great, although, I still listen to the boys on bootleg vinyl a couple times a week. Also, I remember this to be a great venue.

Back in the early days of "underground" FM radio, DJ's took great liberties in what they played on air. Most of you are probably familiar with his band intro of at the Fillmore East.

Anyway, on his late night radio shows, he'd occasionally sneak in some bootleg Dead songs. This became so common, that I'd sit around waiting to hit the "record" switch on my trusty reel-to-reel to acquire some of those tasty treats.

He would never tell you any dates or anything, just blow you away with the cool stash he had access to. Well, since late '70, when he played and I recorded this Morning Dew, I've been trying to locate it's date and source.

Turns out the copy I had was a Marty Weinberg copy. I know everyone has their favorite, but this is mine. Jerry's guitar tone, his phrasing, his volume control are sheer beauty.

The solos are staggering, and the building intensity near the end of the song, when Billy and Mickey kick the beat into double time - that's just magic.

The chord changes right there are unique to this version too. Of all the Dews I've listened to in my 57 years and thousands of hours of tapes, I've never heard another played like this.

Besides the Dew, you need this show Ken and Judy Lee version because : The recording is so clean; look at the rarity of the set list; the energy in the performances; disc 4 has Jerry on Pedal Steel with The New Riders, how cool is that?

If you ever witnessed him with them, you know what I'm saying. Great show, great audience recording. Reviewer: geolectro - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - June 15, Subject: that tease That tease is "Stagger Lee" by Mississippi John Hurt.

You can find it on his Okeh Recordings cd, or maybe even here in the 78 rpm collection. Also, i think this is the finest version of Rosalee McFall that i have heard.

Great picking, by god. Reviewer: jeffsetz - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - June 15, Subject: wow! Here's a show that I've been waiting patiently to surface in listenable form.

Back in the early 80s, someone sent me a 45 min chunk of this show and it was terrible sounding. Out of the blue, I discover this version. I normally avoid old audience recordings but someone recommended I revisit this show.

So glad I did. This is the real deal. I wish all auds sounded this good. Great job on cleaning these tapes up. Thank you! Also check out that second set!

Incidentaly, does anyone know what that little tease after FOTD is? Jerry says something like "That one hasn't passed the hotel-room stage Reviewer: Extinguiderm - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - April 28, Subject: Stop the stupid clapping Wow - what an awesome flashback.

With the guy clapping off-time in Ripple and right next to the taper a guy goes "stop the stupid clapping".

I guess you have to hear it, it's pretty funny. But not on this recording, maybe the other version here on LMA.

And now I get to hear the whole Godzilla quip as well I can't believe how good this sounds; this has always been a killer and it's really worth it.

Such a 'living room' feel to the acoustic portion except for the aforementioned clapping. Thansk to LMA for hosting these wonderful slices of Americana.

A must have. Reviewer: Cliff Hucker - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - April 1, Subject: C'mon guys!

This is a classic! Reviewer: Mohawk Nation - favorite favorite favorite favorite - March 24, Subject: Rare Kick in the Ass Gotta love it when they go into the really quiet "gong jam" right after the first verse of Dark Star and some guy has obviously had enough - he yells, "C'MON!!!

That's probably why the boys then head off for 10 minutes of mind-crushing feedback - just to pay the guy back Overall not a bad AUD and the setlist is outstanding.

If you like the Dead you need this show. Sound is good and the set list is quirky too. Mainly I just wanted to say: Back off the newbies at the bottom of the page.

Honestly, anyone that thinks this isn't the Dead has to be a newbie. Cut 'em some slack. We were all in that boat at some point.

I can recall in my earliest days of listening that for quite a while I thought that Jerry was the rhythm player and not the "lead".

Also, at the time, when all I had to listen to were the albums wasn't yet hip to tapes I thought that Otis of Reckoning fame was actually a member of the band.

What an Ass I felt like when my friends laughed at me about these blunders. So give 'em a break. Try to educate them, the way somebody showed you the light way back when.

Dont know what the hell all the tech stuff means but you did a pissa job fixin this one Reviewer: gphishmon - favorite favorite favorite favorite - January 29, Subject: Can't download or listen When I download it, I get an htm page in about 0.

When I try to listen to it, I get endless buffering. If whoever uploaded it can fix it, I'd sure appreciate it.

From the reviews, it sounds like a must-have. I'll give it 4 stars on faith. Reviewer: familiarfan - favorite favorite favorite favorite - November 25, Subject: Goin' down the road It seems like the less perfect the goin'down the roads were the better off the listeners' who can identify.

Reviewer: dr. Well steal my face and call me Bozo, this show just made an AUD tape lover outta me!!

I had seen this show mentioned around for years on the boards, and of course it's high up on the Deadbase survey list for as well.

After reading the reviews of this new remaster from the Port Chester folks, the old Dr. I was stunned! The clarity of the vocals and acoustic guitars is amazing.

I would have never believed an AUD from could sound this good. REAL close. A big hats off and a pass of the pipe to the Port Chester group.

But of course it helps to have a great source recording to start with - which this is. The acoustic set features some fairly rare items - a slower El Paso, a beautiful Rosalie, and an even rarer Operator.

Well that's about the whole set isn't it - hell they're ALL good here. The band is in a good mood and it comes through in the singing.

Set Two finds them trying out some different material, since no doubt they played almost everything they knew the previous 4 nights here.

Kind of a laid back set if you can dig it, with lots of Garcia doing bluesy jams in the middle section - which is mostly instrumental.

The Morning Dew is a real standout though, very strong. And the rare Baby Blue make this a very enjoyable set overall.

Okay, put on your space helmets Cadets, and get ready to obtain orbit, cause the last set is not of this world!!

A great Truckin still a new song here kicks it off, and then a seamless segue into Dark Star.

First, some nice spacy jamming with Jerry offering all 64 Crayola colors in an ever-changing sound collage that's on the mellow side. Then after the verse - look out!!

They go immediately into a long Feedback-like weirdness section, led mostly by Mickey and Bill on percussion FX.

At the beginning during the Gong jam, someone in the audience contributes some bird calls - which temporarily breaks the spell and Bobby jokingly admonishes the crowd to "be serious".

Warning - this Dark Star is a bit harsh if you're not into electronic effects. But I like it, call me a freak. You'll find it hard to believe this is the same band that played Little Susie an hour ago!!

And the Dancin is just over the top, with Jerry delivering some scorching leads. The rest of the show is so hot it's beyond description.

Suffice to say that Pigpen brings it all down to earth with one of the best Good Lovins of the year.

Those lucky few who were at this show really got their money's worth, and probably their lives changed as well!! This one went right to the top and rang the bell for me.

A Top Ten for sure, with the acoustic set, a fine shining example of what the Dead could do in when the force was with them.

Turn out the lights - no ALL the lights. Turn on your surround sound and light up a bowl of Cheerios. I guarantee that by the 3rd or 4th song - you'll feel like you're IN the audience!!

A great experience and a must have show for fans of this period. Flashback Reviewer: jammy - favorite favorite favorite - November 14, Subject: soundboard snob Great playing, great song selection, marginal sound.

For it is a excellent audience recording, but not good enough for me to listen to many times. It is more than just 'historical interest' as it is listenable.

But even this version just doesn't make it for me. When it gets loud, it gets distorted. The quiet parts are OK.

Dew, oh wow. The concert gets a five, the sound gets a two. Average out at three. Reviewer: A Dude - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - October 29, Subject: This restoration is the best version I did a comparison of this version and the other recent version the "Owens" version and this one is much better my review is over on the page of the Owens version in order to let people know to get this version instead!

This show is a GEM; a wonderful show from start to finish. These audience recordings are so much listening fun! They really put you there in the theatre with the freaks!

I love it! Reviewer: secret - favorite favorite favorite favorite - July 9, Subject: Great past 92 Just a note to that Lesh guy down below , if you think there arent any shows beyond worth listening to , then i feel sorry for you because you are cutting yourself off from some really good stuff.

Just like ANY year the dead played, there were great nights and shitty nights But you cannot look at the Hell Tour of 95 and say , yep - what a shitty era , the band didnt come out with anything at this time.

Reviewer: transitive nightfall - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - June 3, Subject: This is the best version of this classic show I am no professional, but to these untrained ears this version is the best of the lot.

And what a show! I am not always a big fan of El Paso, but this acoustic version is off the charts followed immediately by a rare and quality Operator from Pig Pen.

In general the aud source really works of the acoustic set - you can easily imagine yourself sitting in the 10th row along with a couple hundred friends.

The second set song selection is one of a kind with all those classic early rock and roll tunes. They had already done Wake Up Little Susie in the first set and at the end Weir shouts out for the crowd to go back to the s in a complaint for them to settle down with all the shouting of song requests.

This foreshadows the second set list where they uncork their own one of kind tribute to their early rock n roll heroes.

They get on a roll and just go for it. If this is not your thing, hold on tight for the third set that is a high tempo electric romp that sends the audience into a frenzy.

It is so rare to get a great aud source for a show before the high tech quality taper scene of the 80s and 90s.

Do not miss this one. Thanks again for all the efforts in sharing this gem with us. Reviewer: tkearney01 - favorite favorite favorite favorite - January 4, Subject: "There is a Mountain"???

Jerry dabbled, but seemed to lose interest. First set acoustic, from what I gather, followed by the New Riders, then two complete electric GD sets.

This is Ned's second show. But there was no conscious effort to be absent, and not recorded. He also wanted to make sure to leave space for Pig Pen, especially with Tom Constanten joining the band.

This was a wonderful treat to listen to. This show, though from a different audience source, was one of the first Live Dead tapes I collected!

So great to listen to this show, again, with a far superior quality! Most times I'll say that it isn't what the Dead played so much as it is how they played what they played.

In this case, just check that 2nd-set setlist - by the time the band is deep into the Main Ten and into that crazy Dancin' Stars jam, I find myself truly emotional - the combination of the fuzziness of the recording, the bass, Jerry's notes piercing through - it all is so evocative of an old time, childhood, what you will - extraordinary, a real trip for the senses, the emotion, the ol' private memory bank.

The acoustic set is the gem of sound here. Vocals are clear and it just shines! The odd choices of cover songs is really cool,"My Babe","New Orleans" just let you know the band was here for a long good fun time.

Dloaded it in about 5 minutes. Started listening to the show and found myself with tears streaming down my face during the ripple.

This show happened when I was a whopping 6 years old. I have always kind of focused on the 77 shows because that was the first time I ever saw a show But now here I am in listening to a great 70's show and even though I have heard hundereds of them, I feel like a brand new man listening to this.

A lot of the recordings of this era do not translate the awesome power of the GD at this time. I also have found that many younger heads don't seem to want to go as deep as the music requires.

I saw 18 shows in , some of the best that I'd witnessed over 27 years. There are parts of this show that are sublime, like the Main Ten Jam where they nurse it for a while before they explode into brilliant sunlight.

Also the Dew. A lot of the covers were fun one-offs, but not the highlights, for me at least. Love this show, love Marty's recording! Reviewer: Pangolin22 - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - July 18, Subject: A very special show While this may not be the best acoustic set of the year there's no denying or possibly there is, according to some of the reviewers below that this is a very special show.

This is a jewel of the time period. The show has a great feel, delicate and precise. The slower tempo of the evening really brought out a lot of feeling in the songs played.

The set list really matched the feel of the evening. I love it when that happens. So great to hear music from places we couldn't go.

Glad to hear the our taper descendants are still carrying the torch, and mikes, media, batteries. When Judy and I realized how much MAGIC was going down every night, only to evaporate as our ears stopped ringing, we made the decision to record these otherworldly experiences as best we could.

So we began at the end of the 60s and caught what we could for posterity, never dreaming of the web and all the people that would end up listening to our work for, well, forever, I hope.

As long as we don't totally screw up the planet. We're still out there, going to shows and keeping the light glowing.

Glad to have been able to turn you on to our stuff, we've got hundreds of tapes to go with big plans for the coming new year. Ken and Judy Lee.

Reviewer: karmicg - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - July 1, Subject: Another Version?? First, I have to say it is so encouraging to see other Heads who agree with what I have always thought, that this is the finest Morning Dew and one of Jerry's finest guitar solos, period!

One of the great shows, maybe even my favorite to listen to given the vibe, energy, song selection, etc. Now since the late 70's I have had a cassette copy of much of this show that is a far superior recording.

It is a stereo audience that was dubbed from a reel to reel copy that I was told was a first gen copy, making mine a second gen.

The highs and lows are vastly superior to any other copy I have heard circulating. The only problems are that there are many cuts and glurps in the recording, it seems the taper stopped and started his rig after every song, Baby Blue is particularly butchered and it completely runs out at the beginning of Dancin', and is only the electric set it starts about a minute into Morning Dew.

Also, there is hilarious audience bantor throughout. Despite the flaws, I think the recording is a gem because it TRULY feels like you are in the room when you listen to it.

Has anyone else come across this version? If it has not circulated, I will try and post on the Dime to get it out there.
